NE 16th St – Jefferson Ave NE Stormwater Green Connections Project
Project No. SWP-27-4016, WTR-27-4016
December 17th, 2020
Question and Answers
1. Question: Is this project requiring sand collars/manhole adapters for polypropylene
storm sewer pipe?
Answer: Under Standard Details please see Std. Plan – 201.00 “Catch Basin Type 2”
Note 6. This note states “WHEN CONNECTING TO A NEW PIPE, USE A FLEXIBLE
CONNECTOR (KOR-N-SEAL BOOT WITH CORRUGATED PIPE ADAPTER OR APPROVED
EQUAL). WHEN CONNECTING TO AN EXISTING PIPE, USE A FABRICATED SAND
COLLAR OF THE SAME MATERIAL AS THE CONNECTING PIPE.” This applies to all pipe
material.
However, please note that Addendum No. 2 alters the above Note 6 to provide
better clarification. “WHEN CONNECTING TO A NEW PIPE, USE A FLEXIBLE
CONNECTOR (KOR-N-SEAL BOOT OR APPROVED EQUAL). USE CORRUGATED PIPE
ADAPTER AS REQUIRED. WHEN CONNECTING TO AN EXISTING PIPE, USE A
FABRICATED SAND COLLAR OF THE SAME MATERIAL AS THE CONNECTING PIPE.”
2. Question: Does the City of Renton really want shackle rods, star bolts, nuts and
washers as the restraint system for all the waterline or is a proprietary restrained
pipe such as TR Flex and mega-lugs for fittings suitable for bidding?
Answer: Shackle rods with star bolts and nuts are only used for the short sections of
6-inch D.I. pipe from the fire hydrants to the auxiliary gate valves at the main line tee
as shown on Standard Plan No. 310.1.
The ductile pipes for the new water mains shall be Push-on joint or Tyton-Joint.
All ductile iron fittings with mechanical-joint end(s) and all valves with mechanical-
joint end(s) shall have restraint follower gland(s) with multiple gripping wedges
meeting the requirements of ANSI/AWWA C111/A21.11 or ANSI/AWWA
C110/A21.10.
Addendum No. 2 addresses this question and will be issued to all plan holders and/or
prospective bidders.

3. Question: In Special Provisions section 7-08.3(1)C paragraph one it states, “Pipe
bedding for PVC sewer pipe shall consist of clean, granular pea gravel consistent with
Section 9-03.12(3).” Does the City of Renton allow for pea gravel for pipe bedding?
Answer: Addendum No. 2 addresses this contradiction and removes any language
regarding pea gravel. The pipe bedding for PVC sewer pipe shall meet the criteria in
Section 9-03.12(3).
