the client's request, ESNW rep was onsite to observe or test cut slopes, wall backfill with cement, test pH of
stormwater and earthwork activities.
Cut Slopes
While onsite, rep observed south slopes of the cut slopes to be near vertical and covered in plastic sheeting. Rep
observed that the east slopes of the excavation were near a 0.75:1 (H:V) slope. Although over-steepened, slopes
are stable in current configuration and stable to work within. The contractor is responsible for providing all safety
measures in accordance with state and federal regulation. Rep observed that contractor had sloped the southeast
corner of the footing excavation to a 1: 1 (H:V).
Wall Backfill with Cement
Rep observed contractor use a medium sized excavator to mix and cement treat native brown silty sand with gravel
material. Rep observed contractor treat native material with a 3% cement mix. Rep observed contractor place
12"-18" lifts for a hoe pack and 6"-8" lifts for a jumping jack during compaction. Rep will return to observe and test
the compaction of the wall backfill as needed.
Test pH of Stormwater
Rep took pH tests to determine the pH of stormwater. In the filled baker tanks rep observed 9.46 NTU and a pH
of 6.5. Rep observed that pH level was contained onsite at 6.5 pH.
ESNW rep will return to observe earthwork activities when requested by client f-

Footings Excavations
Rep observed contractor use a medium sized excavator to excavate and the building footings. Rep recommended
and observed that contractor was over-excavating footings ~4" from designed footing grade. Rep observed
contractor backfill the over-excavation with a 3"-4" lift of 1 ¼" minus crushed rock for the footing subgrade to
increase stability during wall construction. Rep used a ½" steel t-probe and observed the footing subgrade to be
very dense, firm, unyielding, and suitable for support of the proposed footings.
ESNW rep will return to observe earthwork activities when requested by client f-

on calculations with the cement treatment (130.7 lbs./cu. ft.).
Water Line Backfill
Rep observed the prior to arrival that contractor had used a medium sized excavator to excavate a water line
trench (W8'xD12'). Contractor expressed plans to continue working on water line backfill tomorrow, March 5,
2020. Rep will return to observe or test backfill as needed.
