Water Main Backfill ESNW Rep observed contractor excavating to for water main connection. Rep observed contractor backfill with 18’’ of pea gravel then native material to grade. Rep observed trench to be approximately 30’ long and 3’ deep. While onsite, rep used a ½” steel t-probe and observed the subgrade to be very dense, firm, unyielding, and suitable for support of the proposed water main connection. Rep observed 1’ lifts of native material compacted with a jumping jack to grade. ESNW rep observed that the contractor had achieved minimum compaction standards of 95% or greater in areas tested. Roof Drain Trench ESNW rep observed contractor using a medium sized excavator to excavate a 2’ deep 150’ long trench along the eastern margin to the building. ESNW rep observed contractor placing an 8’’ drain pipe. Rep used a ½” steel t- probe and observed the subgrade to be very dense, firm, unyielding, and suitable for support of the proposed roof drains. Cut Slopes While onsite, rep observed slopes of the cut slopes to be near vertical. Rep observed that the north slopes of the excavation were near a 0.75:1 (H:V) slope. Although over-steepened, slopes are stable in current configuration and stable to work within. The contractor is responsible for providing all safety measures in accordance with state and federal regulation ESNW rep will return to observe earthwork activities when requested by client Fig 1.
