Yes Project No. Permit No. At the client’s request, ESNW rep was onsite to observe and test compaction of water utility trench backfill adjacent to the Weatherly Inn development. While onsite the following was observed: Utility (Water) Trench Backfill Compaction Testing: ESNW rep was informed by the contractor that a small water trench located on the south-east perimeter corner of the weatherly inn development had the first lift of backfill placed and compacted (pictured). ESNW re observed that the native soils located and utilized as backfill within this area of the site differed in gradation from previous native soil samples, and obtained a representative sample for laboratory proctor analysis (proctor curve #8). ESNW rep observed that the contractor had backfilled approximately 18” over the water utility pipe, and had utilized native onsite material as trench backfill and a small hoe-pack to compact the trench backfill. However, ESNW rep observed that the contractor did not achieve minimum compaction requirements of 95% or greater in the areas tested, and that re-compaction of the trench backfill would be required. ESNW rep notified the contractor and will return to test compaction of the water utility trench backfill. ESNW rep will return at the request of the client. Trevor Healy, G.I.T.
