At the client's request, ESNW rep was onsite to observe vault excavation and earthwork activities.
Vault Excavation
While onsite, rep observed contractor grading the vault excavation to design elevation with a large excavator. Rep
observed the south slope to be near vertical, the east and north slope to be 1:1 (H:V) to a near 7' vertical toe, and the
west slope to be (H:V) to a near 3' vertical toe. Although over -steepened, slopes are stable in current configuration
and stable to work within. The contractor is responsible for providing all safety measures in accordance with state and
federal regulation.
Rep used a '/" steel t-probe and observed the subgrade of the stormwater vault excavation to be very dense, firm,
unyielding, and suitable for support of the proposed vault slab. Rep observed that contractor had placed plastic
sheeting over exposed slopes in the south and east perimeters of the excavation. Rep recommended that contractor
place sheeting over all exposed slopes in the excavation.
ESNW rep will return to observe earthwork activities when requested by client.
