Supplementary Report:
At the client’s request, ESNW rep was onsite to observe and test fire line backfill and slope stability.
Water Line Trench Excavation
While onsite, contractor was observed using a medium excavator to excavate 100’ of 4’ deep trench for a 6’’ ductile
iron water line connection to the fire suppression system at the Northeast of the main building. Contractor covered
pipe with 18’’ of pea gravel and then backfilled with brown silty sand with gravel native material. Rep used a ½”
steel t-probe to probe the trench and observed the water line trench subgrade to be very dense, firm, unyielding,
and suitable for support of the proposed water line. ESNW rep observed that the contractor had achieved
minimum compaction standards of 95% or greater in locations tested.
Cut Slopes
While onsite, rep observed slopes of the cut slopes to be near vertical. Rep observed that the north slopes of the
excavation were near a 0.75:1 (H:V) slope. Although over-steepened, slopes are stable in current configuration
and stable to work within. The contractor is responsible for providing all safety measures in accordance with state
and federal regulation
ESNW rep will return to observe earthwork activities when requested by client
