Supplementary Report:
At the client’s request, ESNW rep was onsite to observe and test water main backfill and observe slope stability.
Water Main Backfill
ESNW Rep observed contractor excavating to 9’ for water main connection. Rep observed contractor backfill with
crushed recycled concrete 1 ¼’’ minus material . While onsite, rep used a ½” steel t-probe and observed the
subgrade to be very dense, firm, unyielding, and suitable for support of the proposed water main connection. Rep
observed 1’ lifts of native material compacted with a jumping jack to grade. ESNW rep observed that the
contractor had achieved minimum compaction standards of 95% or greater in areas tested.
Cut Slopes
While onsite, rep observed slopes of the cut slopes to be near vertical. Rep observed that the north slopes of the
excavation were near a 0.75:1 (H:V) slope. Although over-steepened, slopes are stable in current configuration
and stable to work within. The contractor is responsible for providing all safety measures in accordance with state
and federal regulation
ESNW rep will return to observe earthwork activities when requested by client
