Lock and Load Wall Backfill While onsite, rep observed wall contractor install the second tier of the lock and load wall. Rep observed contractor grade and place import gray 5/8" minus crushed recycled concrete in loose—6"--12" lifts. Rep observed contractor place geo-grid as per plan (8XT). Once lifts were placed, rep observed contractor use a medium sized plate compactor or a medium sized double drum roller for compaction. Rep took compaction tests on fill and observed material to be adequate of at least 95% of its maximum dry density (122.0 lbs./cu. ft.). Rep observed the south slopes of the lock and load wall to be near vertical. Although over -steepened, slopes are stable in current configuration and stable to work within. Rep observed that contractor had covered the slopes with plastic sheeting to minimize stormwater on exposed surfaces. Rep met with Key -West's Steve and Rino rep to discuss possible changes to the slope. ESNW observed that the slope approximately 1 00'from the east end was very dense and unyielding. ESNW recommended that bank also be cut to fit at least 4' of geo-grid for the first —4' of the third tier and the top —4' of the third tier be cut back to fit 8' of geo-grid. For the third tier, contractor expressed plans that were confirmed by ESNW to use all 5/8" minus crushed recycled concrete for backfill instead of the clean crushed behind the panels. Vault Excavation and Backfill Rep observed contractor placing 6" perforated drain pipe at the toe of the vault footings. Rep observed contractor wrapping a 12" lift of 1"-2" wash rock and embedding the pipe in the wash rock. Contractor was observed raising the elevation of the pipe due to the design elevation needs. ESNW rep will return to observe earthwork activities when requested by client. 4J__5 ;1lL_ Andrew Kimn, Senior Technician, 206-430-9183 .. Lock and Load Wall Backfill While onsite, rep observed that second tier of the lock and load wall completed. ESNW observed that the slope approximately 100' from the east end was very dense and unyielding. Rep observed contractor use a large excavator and small excavator to excavate and cut the bank of the slope for the third tier of the lock and load wall. Rep observed that contractor was cutting material to ESNW recommendations. Rep met with ESNW manager Scott onsite. Earthwork Activities Rep observed contractor grading throughout the site with a large excavator, a medium sized dozer, and a large haul truck. Rep observed that contractor was grading and clearing the over saturated material from the proposed building pad and the west end parking lot. ESNW rep will return to observe earthwork activities when requested by client. Once lifts were placed, rep observed contractor use a medium sized plate compactor for compaction. Rep took compaction tests on fill and observed material to be adequate of at least 95% of its maximum dry density (118.4.0 lbs./cu. ft.). Rep observed the south slopes of the lock and load wall to be near vertical. Although over -steepened, slopes are stable in current configuration and stable to work within. Rep observed that bank was cut to fit at least 4' of geo-grid for the first -4' of the third tier and the top -4' of the third tier to fit 8' of geo-grid. Building Footings Rep met with Rino foreman, Mike, and Accrete representative to discuss the building footings. Rep recommended that contractor cut and slope the footings with a 4"-12" over -excavation and placing a clean crushed rock for the basecourse. The basecourse would help minimize oversaturation of the subgrade material and create a stable surface for forming footing boards. Sloping the footings would help to control the flow of water out of the footings and reduce pooling of stormwater. Rep observed that contractor was grading and clearing the over saturated material from the proposed building pad and the west end parking lot.
