Hi Angelea,
Public Works will be coming out to see if they can help us next week – I’m hoping to do it in-house if
possible. I don’t have a work date scheduled as of yet.
The Parcel Number is 2423049098. The tree is located next to the Springbrook Trail just upstream on the
Black River near the SW 7th St bridge to the waste water treatment facility off Oakesdale.
The work would likely involve fishing the tree out of the river so it doesn’t create a future snag and
impede the flow. Because the trail is undermined by approximately a foot and a half the black top will
first need to be saw cut. The trail bank revetment will need to then be reinforced before backfilling,
compacting and resurfacing with new blacktop. A brief trail closure will be needed while the work is
done, but trail users can simply be redirected onto the sidewalk between SW 7th and S Grady along
Oakesdale.
Overhead is attached along with a few photos.
Thanks for your help!
Best,
Ian Gray

Hello Ian,
I’ve been assigned this project. I can put it on high priority. Can you provide a parcel number and an
aerial photo showing the location of the fallen tree? Also, can you provide a very brief description of
your proposed plan? Management is out of the office tomorrow, but I should be able to get the decision
out to year Monday or Tuesday of next week after I get that additional information.
Thank you,
Angelea Weihs

That’s what I figured – I appreciate any assistance. PW is going to have a look first thing next week to
see if it is something we can tackle in-house.

Ian,
This is located in the Shoreline, we can issue an emergency shoreline exemption.
Paul – could you please assign a Planner for Ian to work with.
Thank you,

Subject: FW: Fallen tree and undermined trail
Good morning,
A tree fell along the Springbrook Trail towards the Blackriver end just upstream from the SW 7th St
treatment facility bridge and it looks like the trail may be slightly undermined when the root ball lifted. I
reckon that a short saw cut, revetment, backfill and resurfacing may be required, but am wondering if
there are shoreline permitting concerns that I need to be aware of. Also, if this were the Cedar River we
would normally just let nature to take care of the tree, but in this location, on this river, do we need
consider pulling it out?
Thanks,
