Human Services Advisory Committee Grant Recommendation Process a) Presentation Human Services Advisory Committee CITY OF RENTON –COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT AGENDA ITEM #1. a) Human Services Advisory Committee Mission: To stay informed of community needs and assets, in order to provide recommendations to the Mayor, council and city staff, regarding allocation of funds to programs that meet the needs of Renton residents. Vision: All Renton residents may have the opportunity to live in a healthy, socially thriving and inclusive community that enriches their quality of life. 2 AGENDA ITEM #1. a) The Nuts & Bolts of HSAC 3 The Human Services Advisory Committee is composed of 11 City of Renton residents, including one youth representative who is under 21. Committee members are appointed by the Mayor and have a term of three years. The Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the City in the disposition of human services and allocation of funds to specific programs and projects that serve Renton residents. A public hearing is required, 14 days after publication of the notice of proposed recommendations. 5 AGENDA ITEM #1. a) The Funding Process 6 Renton participates with 15 other cities in the Human Services Funding Collaborative (HSFC) to coordinate human services funding between East, North and South King County municipalities. Renton gets over 1.2 million dollars in grant request each funding cycle. Renton has approximately $562,037 to allocate. Applications are accepted in need areas identified in the most current human services needs assessment. The HSAC has received training not only in racism and implicit bias but also in how to use the rating tool and have scored a number of practice applications. Applications in a need area will be ranked by highest to lowest based on the average score of the HSAC raters. Programs will be funded in the order they are ranked, and programs cannot be skipped to fund a lower ranked program. The committee members have discretion in determining the amount awarded, if request meets the minimum amount of $7,500.
