Community Services Dept. -Recreation & Neighborhoods Division
AGENDA ITEM #1. a)
What Is Age-Friendly?
A designation by The World Health
Organization and AARP that recognizes the
City of Renton’s commitment to providing a
livable community where all generations are
valued, thrive and age with respect.
The designation starts a three-year process. The city will assess how it
currently meets its residents' needs and identifies potential gaps and
future actions.
The process will include residents, non-profit organizations, businesses,
and faith-based communities from all parts of the city.
The process concludes with the development of an action plan
demonstrating how the city will support the eight domains of livability
identified by the WHO AGENDA ITEM #1. a)

What’s Next
Develop a robust city web page to serve as a source for information and
resources for seniors in our community and beyond.
Connect with external partners (ie: Valley Medical, King County Library, non-
profit partners, etc.) to conduct an audit on services / needs.
Develop a plan to collaborate with senior advisory board as we move into
development of the Action Plan.
Collect input from seniors who are caregivers, live in multi-generation
families, or have mobile homes.
Target through pilot programming specifically for elderly Spanish and
Vietnamese speakers. Engage with seniors including those who identify as
LGBTQ or represent groups that have not given input on prior survey topics.AGENDA ITEM #1. a)
