Dear Council Members, RECEIVED
CITY CLERK'S OFFICE
We are the small business owners, employees, and citizens of Renton writing to
you out of our frustration with the Red Lion near Renton Village and I-167.
According to the Seattle Times, one person died, and 35 people tested positive for
the covid-19 virus over a two-week period from mid-December to early January.
How many shoppers, employees, and neighbors were infected when residents of
the Homeless Hotel walk, unmasked, into local businesses before being tested and
isolated at King County's quarantine facility in Kent?
The costs to the local area businesses extend far beyond covid. Every morning the
parking lot is littered with heroin needles, discarded clothing, urine, and feces. The
ground behind the buildings is strewn with empty water bottles and food wrappers.
Cars are broken into and shoppers are frightened away. We are a constant target of
brazen shoplifting.
The impact of the Homeless Hotel to employees, customers and neighbors is
untenable. If small business owners continue to shoulder the costs to repair
vandalism, shoplifting, and ongoing damages to our businesses, Renton Village
will consist of a series of empty storefronts by early summer.
Please pass the Homeless Shelter Ordinance upholding the Zoning rules of City of
Renton.
Thank you fo stening to our concerns:
