Do not click links, reply or open attachments unless you know the content is safe. Dear Mayor Pavone and Renton City Councilmembers, As a nonprofit membership association representing a diverse group of organizations working directly in the affordable housing and homeless service provision sector, Housing Development Consortium (HDC) members produce and preserve affordable homes across the City of Renton. Our members are committed to the creation of affordable housing and ensuring dignity for all lives through service provision for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. As you consider the interim zoning controls in response to the Renton Red Lion de-intensification shelter operating in the city, we express concern and urge you to work on bolstering the elements we know are essential for our community to experience an equitable recovery – with effective homelessness response. The COVID 19 emergency and the crisis of homelessness call for proactive leadership that creates a path to recovery and overcomes limitations. The new homeless services classification proposed in the emergency land-use code change would make applications onerous and prevent an effective response to the exacerbated crisis. We urge you to vote NO, on this emergency legislation. Sincerely, Patience Malaba Director of Government Relations and Policy (Pronouns, She/Her) Housing Development Consortium of Seattle-King County 1326 5th Avenue, Suite 230 Seattle, WA 98101 O: (206) 682-9541 C: (425) 245-6000 www.housingconsortium.org
