Hello Renton Mayor and City Council,
Both my partner and I are residents of Talbut Hill and happy Renton residents. We recently heard about the issue of the
Red Lion.
We are firmly against forcing the closure of the Red Lion or forcing homeless individuals to move without another place
to go.
While we are sympathetic to the businesses or others who say they’ve noticed increased crime, we encourage you to
find other ways to mitigate the issues you are hearing about. For instance, could a regular community trash pickup be
organized amongst the neighbors and various non profits? Could the Renton PD patrol more often?
You guys probably more ability to think creatively than I do, but I would encourage you to find alternative ways to
mitigate the issue without removing the Red Lion before it is ready.
Remember, if you want to become a “drive-to” city, you will probably get more homelessness, and so will need to have
more shelters eventually.
Best,
Derek Lum
