It has come to my attention that the Renton City Council is working on evicting the houseless who are currently residing at Red Lion. These folks are the most vulnerable of our community and to force them back out into the cold during a pandemic is immoral. The idea that houseless people are somehow not part of our community and that we can just push them somewhere else is classist and hateful. We are all better than that.Renton is better than that. I also learned that you are using zoning ordinances as a means to accomplish these evictions, which is the racist icing on the racist, classist cake. Zoning laws have historically disproportionately negatively affected POC. Please take a moment to see that you have the power to make the correct, empathetic, moral choice to allow the houseless to stay safe and healthy during the pandemic. We as a community owe it them.
