Councilmembers,
I am sure you are all struggling with the mental and physical health effects of the COVID lockdowns
like the rest of us. As much as I disagree with the lockdowns imposed by our governor, as a small
business owner and member of the community, I believe local leaders have an obligation to offer
support where they can in this time of need. Please continue your support of the Red Lion and the
people it currently houses. Leaving these citizens in the cold during a pandemic would be disgraceful,
and it hurts businesses like the Red Lion and its vendors who are able to continue employing people
when jobs are already scarce.
I have another request. Though I do feel like continuing support for this program is important in a less
than ideal situation, it pains me to see so many homeless people being housed and fed for free right
now when people like myself are working 90 hour weeks to survive but get no support. Please look
into rental assistance, business grants, and other means of financial support for those of us busting
our butts every day. We need help too and though some federal programs have been helpful, they
really aren't enough.
Thank you so much,
Elisia Howard
P.S. Anything you can do to support local businesses right now would be incredible! I think business
grants are a great idea, but please don't do something like Inslee did and make them just for costs
related to COVID. Businesses need to replace lost revenue right now to cover their costs, not be
reimbursed for hand sanitizer. :)
