Hello Governing Board,
LR - 000618
I had a request for information on the minor fire event at the Red Lion this afternoon. Crews were dispatched
to a sprinkler water flow alarm on the fourth floor. The RRFA found water flowing from under the door of a
unit on the fourth floor. Witness stated the occupant had barricaded himself in the room and had been making
threats and had a knife and pepper spray. After Renton PD arrived for protection the RRFA made entry into
the room. No fire was found but significant water damage occurred to multiple floors of the building.
Thank you

Subject: Red Lion Fire
Good afternoon Governing Board,
Normally I would not send you an email for a single unit commercial fire but this one occurred at the Red
Lion which is high visibility occupancy.
Today at 11:11am we were dispatched to the Red Lion (1 South Grady Way) for a fire on the 6th floor. We
responded with four (4) Engines, two (2) ladders, two (2) Battalion Chiefs and one (1) aid unit. A second
alarm was called. We received assistance from Tukwila, Fire District 20 and Puget Sound Regional Fire
during this call.
The crews were able to quickly get to the sixth floor and with the help of the sprinkler system, contain the fire
to the unit of origin. Crews were able to evacuate other occupants who were in potential danger with only one
minor injury.
There were five to six hotel units which were not able to be re-occupied. The Red lion had other units
available for the displaced occupants to occupy.
There was a potential suspect who Renton PD was able apprehend. The fire is currently being investigated as
an arson fire by the RRFA Fire Marshall Office and Renton Police.
LR - 000620
Fire Crews who are still on site are working with King County and a private contractor to get the sprinkler
alarm system back in service so the building can be fully re-occupied.
For more information on how often we respond to the Red Lion and current code violations, please refer to
the November 12 email that was sent to the Governing Board.
Please let me know if you have questions.

Subject: Red Lion Responses and Code Violations
Good Morning Councilmember Perez,
During our Governing Board meeting on Tuesday evening, you asked for data on responses to Red Lion (01
South Grady Way) and an update on code violations.
I have attached two reports which should answer your questions regarding response.
• On the top of the second page of the Call Comparison Report, you will find how many times we have responded to Red Lion each of the last 45 days.
• On the bottom of page two of the Resp Ops Report, you will find how many times we have responded to Red Lion each quarter in 2020.
As of 10-10-2020, the Red Lion only has one outstanding code violation for two egress doors that aren’t
closing and latching. The Office of the Fire Marshal is working to resolve this violation. All other violations
that were noted in the past have been brought up to code.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Thank you,
LR - 000622
Roy
