THE FOLLOWING WAS NOTED:
Associated Earth Sciences, Inc. (AESI) arrived on site in the PM in order to observe earthwork activities. Upon arrival we
met with Mark and Dan.
Grading:
While we were onsite we observed Fury backfill for storm drain trench from CB 3 toward CB 9 (Fig 1). Backfill was
approximately 16 inches thick comprised of imported very gravelly sand with some silt. Backfill was placed in a 16” thick
lift and compacted utilizing a vibratory roller. We assessed the soil visually and with a ½” diameter steel probe. AESI
observed approximately 4” of pumping on the south end of the fill. We recommend that this layer be dried. On the north
end we observed little to no pumping on the north end, and the layer to be in a firm and unyielding condition. The
contractor indicated they planned to bring in more sandy material and to put approximately one foot of fill over the north
end.
AESI departed the site and will return tomorrow.
Figure 1: Highlighted in orange is the approximant location we observed pumping. Highlighted in green is compact soil.
