THE FOLLOWING WAS NOTED:
Associated Earth Sciences, Inc. (AESI) arrived on site in the AM in order to observe proof roll for curb and roadway. Upon
arrival we met with Tom with the City of Renton, Mike Day with Fury, and Mark Seek with Tiger Mountain Homes.
Proof Roll:
While we were on site we observed a proof roll for site curb and roadway (Fig 1). Proof roll was conducted utilizing a fully
loaded dump truck. Subgrade consisted of approximately 6” of compacted 1 ¼” minus crushed rock. During proof roll
three locations were observed to yield. These areas were painted. The rest of the area proof rolled was firm and
unyielding.
While we were on site we recommended repairs for yielding areas of subgrade. AESI recommended removing yielding
material and replacing with structural fill. Fury completed the recommendation while onsite. Yielding area at the east side
of the site was removed until firm, unyielding subgrade was encountered as assessed utilizing a ½” diameter steel soil
probe, approximately 1’ deep. Removed material was replaced with imported 1 ¼” minus crushed rock which was
compacted utilizing a vibratory roller. Crushed rock was compacted to a firm and unyielding condition while we were
onsite. Approximate volume of over excavation was 5.6 yd3.
While we were onsite we observed subgrade conditions for the two other yielding areas on the roadway observed during
proof roll. Fury removed the overlaying crushed rock to expose soils underneath and excavated further in multiple
locations up to 1’ deep. AESI observed and assessed the areas as well as the excavations with a ½” diameter steel soil
probe and reached penetration depths of less than 1” deep. AESI recommended to Fury and Mark Seek to continue
observations for these areas and to reassess prior to paving.
AESI departed the site in the PM and will return upon request.
