RENTON MUNICIPAL ARTS COMMISSION MINUTES May 05,2015 Renton City Hall,7th Floor-Conference Center �Members Present: Paul Hebron, Bill Huls,Ben Andrews,Mitch Shepherd, Adrienne LaFaye,and Evelyn Reingold Excused Absence: Jerri Everett,Jaris English,Kim Eshelman,Neil Sheesiey, Mary - Clymer,and Marsha Rolfinger ' Staff Present: Elizabeth Higgins,RMAC Staff Liaison Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by RMAC Co-Chair,Pauf Hebron at 4:35 pm. Introduction of Guests: Rick Moreno,Artist -Wow Murals;Robert Morrison,Owner—Lee's Family Martial Arts;Chris Koruga,Developer—Altitude Apt;and Shari Bradbury,Artist i . • New Mural Site at 405-5 3rd and Whitworth—Rick Moreno and Robert Morrison . , proposed a mural for the side of the building. It will feature a Pop Art image of Bruce p Lee's face with the caption,"As you think,so shall you become." The art refers to the legacy of Bruce Lee and not the business. Bruce Lee's widow still lives in the area and , perhaps she should be contacted to check if use of his image is okay. They also have an alternative image of a girl breaking through a brick wall. The mural would be eligible for a small grant consideration. Applications are on line under"Make Art Happen:' Rick _- noted the Heaven Sent mural he made near the.Piazza has never been tagged. • Incoraoration of Art in Altitude Apt—Chris Koruga updated the RMAC on the status of the Altitude's art project. They will bring Visual and Graphic Artist,Fernando Sanchez in- house to install some new work and possibly conduct a workshop.The tentative time is . in July or August for the opening of the 2"d building. The Amphitheater which will seat about 100, has a wall that faces north on Benson Rd. New Business• � • Amelia Ossorio Proiect Discussion—Paul suggested that a film,focusing on Renton's art collection,using a "Sister Wendy"type format could be developed and shown on the city's Channel 21. Further discussion tabled. • Renton Rive�Davs Julv 24—26 Libertv Park—The possibility of sharing a booth with Arts Unlimited and artists with work to sell will be discussed at the May 21S`meeting. s ,� -�: , — ; � � �� Old Business: , , • RMAC Meetin�Time—As of Ju1y 2015,meetings will be at 6:00 pm. Elizabeth will change the website. _ • Downtown Public Librarv Art Relocation—The RMAC agreed with the committee that "Stilt Walker"should remain near its current location.The availability of 1%for Art funds are being reviewed for a new commissioned work for the new Downtown library. Further discussions will be held with the King County Lihrary. • 2015 RMAC Advance Plannin�—The meeting will be held at.the Trident Towers.—700 Grady Way_and Talbot Rd from 4:00—7:00 pm.
