DESCRIPTION OF STORMWATER SYSTEM OPERATION
1. STORMWATER IS COLLECTED FROM THE AREA OF APRON A OUTSIDE OF THE STALLS Al -A7 AND
DIRECTED TO THE EXISTING VALVE VAULT SYSTEM. A GREEN BEACON IS NORMALLY ON.
2. STORMWATER FLOWS THROUGH THE FLOW SPUTTER CATCH BASIN; VALVES BV A7-1 & BV A7-2
ARE NORMALLY OPEN. VALVE BV A7-3 IS NORMALLY CLOSED. (A GREEN BEACON IS ON)
3. IN THE EVENT OF A FUEL SPILL THE FLOW SPUTTER CATCH BASIN DIVERTS A SPILL TO THE FUEL
CONTAINMENT VAULT; VALVES BV A7-1 AND BV A7-2 CLOSE AND VALVE BV A7-3 OPENS. (A RED
BEACON IS ON)
4. MANUAL ACTIVATION OF THE EMERGENCY SPILL PUSH BUTTON WILL TURN OFF A GREEN BEACON
AND TURN ON A RED BEACON AND WILL CLOSE VALVES BV A7-1 AND BV A7-2 AND OPEN VALVE
BV A7-3. FLOW WILL BE DIVERTED TO THE FUEL CONTAINMENT VAULT.
5. THE FLUID LEVEL SENSOR IN THE FUEL CONTAINMENT VAULT WILL NOTIFY THE EMCS SYSTEM OF
FUEL/OIL ACCUMULATION. THE CPS OIL -WATER SEPARATOR SHOULD BE EVACUATED OF FUEL
FOLLOWING A SPILL OR IF MONTHLY INSPECTIONS INDICATED THE PRESENCE OF FUEL.
6. THERE ARE MANUALLY OPERATED GATE VALVES BEFORE AND AFTER THE OIL -WATER SEPARATOR SO
THE OIL -WATER SEPARATOR CAN BE ISOLATED.
7. THERE IS A HYDROCARBON SENSOR IN THE STORMWATER CPS OIL -WATER SEPARATOR. WHEN THERE
IS A FUEL SPILL THAT INCREASES THE OIL LEVEL IN THE SEPARATOR THE SENSOR WILL CLOSE
VALVE BV A7-1 AND BV A7-2 AND OPEN BV A7-3. THE CPS OIL -WATER SEPARATOR SENSOR IS
THE BACK UP ACTIVATION FOR THE FUEL SPILL CONTAINMENT SYSTEM.
8. IN THE EVENT OF A SPILL DURING A POWER OUTAGE ALL VALVES CAN BE OPERATED MANUALLY.
9. THE FUEL CONTAINMENT VAULT HAS A FLUID LEVEL SENSOR THAT NOTIFIES THE EMCS SYSTEM OF
ACCUMULATED FLUID IN THE VAULT. THE FUEL CONTAINMENT VAULT SHOULD BE MONITORED FOR
WATER ACCUMULATION AND WATER EVACUATED SO AS TO PRESERVE CONTAINMENT CAPACITY. THE
FUEL CONTAINMENT VAULT SHOULD BE EVACUATED OF FUEL FOLLOWING A SPILL.
15. THE OIL -WATER SEPARATOR DISCHARGES TO THE MODULAR WETLAND TREATMENT VAULT
(MWS-L-8-24-V-UG) WHICH PROVIDES ENHANCED WATER QUALITY. THE MODULAR WETLAND
SHOULD BE INSPECTED BY A BIO-CLEAN APPROVED SERVICE PROVIDER ON AN ANNUAL BASIS.
WETLAND SOILS MAY OR MAY NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED ANNUALLY.
16. CHECK AND ISOLATION VALVING IS IN THE VALVE PIT ADJACENT TO THE WET WELL.
17. PUSH BUTTON TO BE LOCATED ADJACENT TO ELECTRICAL PANEL NORTH OF THE BUILDING, OR AS
DIRECTED ON SHEET E536.
