An exemption from a Shoreline Management Substantial Development Permit is hereby
granted on the proposed project described on the attached form for the following reason(s):

Normal maintenance of repair of existing structures or developments, including
damage by accident, fire or elements.
1. "Normal maintenance" includes those usual acts to prevent a decline, lapse,
or cessation from a lawfully established condition.
2. "Normal repair" means to restore a development to a state comparable to its
original condition, including but not limited to its size, shape, configuration,
location and external appearance, within a reasonable period after decay or
partial destruction, except where repair causes substantial adverse effects to
the shoreline resource or environment.
3. Replacement of a structure or development may be authorized as repair
where such replacement is the common method of repair for the type of
structure or development and the replacement structure or development is
comparable to the original structure or development including, but not limited
to, its size, shape, configuration, location and external appearance and the
replacement does not cause substantial adverse effects to shoreline resources
or environment.

PROJECT NARRATIVE
The current use of the site is as a assembly plant for commercial jet aircraft.
The project location is adjacent to the tow path for jet aircraft. The adjacent
water body is Lake Washington. The shoreline is designated urban and
consists of a concrete bulkhead and a sandy silt shoreline lined with
ornamental plantings.

The project consists of the replacement of an existing fire hydrant with
another one. The existing hydrant is old and has rust problems. The height
of the hydrant is 30 inches and the square footage is approximately 9 s.f. .
The cost of the project will be approximately $1,000. Construction will
occur shortly after all permits are received.
An exemption is being sought as per the following sections of the Renton
Shoreline Master Program.
1. Exemptions 2.03.01 B. The fair market value is less that $2,500.
2. Exemptions 2.03.01C1. Normal maintenance or repair of an existing
facility.
