TheCommitteeoftheWholeaskedafewquestionsduringthemeetingonOctober24which
staffpromisedtoanswer.Belowaretheresponsestoallofthequestionsorrequestsfor
additionalinformation.
1. Howmuchdidwespendin2015and2016orvehiclereplacements?[Councilmember

Reportsonvehicleacquisitionsandreplacementsfor2011through2016areincludedin
AttachmentA.
2. Isthe$124,000thetotalcostoftheArboristincludingsalaryandbenefits?
[CouncilmemberPerez]
The$124,000costfortheArborist’sservicesisthecontractualamountpaid.Because
thisisacontractualservice,Rentonisnotpayingsalaryorbenefitsforthiswork.
3. HastheCity’snewsolidwastecontractor,RepublicServices,foundofficespacein
Renton?[CouncilmemberPersson]
RepublicServiceshasnarrowedtheselectionofacustomerservicewalkͲinsitein
Rentontofoursites.ThreeofthesitesareinRenton’sdowntowncore.Onesiteisin
theFredMeyercomplex.RepublicServicesisworkingwitharealestaterepresentative
andtheyintendtoleasespaceandcreateacustomerservicewalkͲinlocation.

TheestimatedcostofaHAWKpedestriancrossingsignaloverafivelaneroadincluding
AmericanswithDisabilitiesAct(ADA)compliantcurbrampsis$500,000.Notethatfor
thelocationbeingdiscussed(intersectionofNESunsetBlvd.andMonroeAvenueNE–
seemapinAttachmentB),astandardintersectiontrafficsignalwouldberecommended
overaHAWKsignal.Theestimatedcostofastandardtrafficsignalinthislocationis
$750,000.SinceSR900isastatehighway,thesignalwouldberequiredtobewarranted
andapprovedbyWSDOT.Pleasealsonotethatatrafficsignalinthislocationis
includedintheNESunsetBlvd.CorridorImprovements,TIPProjectNumber12.The
approximatetimeframeforthisworkwouldbe2021Ͳ2022.

TheCityusesarankingsystemwhenevaluatingcitizenrequestsforinstallationofa
crosswalk.Pointsforrankingrequestedcrosswalksareassignedbasedupon:
o Peakflowpedestriantraffic;
o Vehicleaveragedailytraffic(ADT);
o Schoolwalkroute;and
o NumberofpedestrianͲvehicleconflictsinthelasttwoyears.
Otherfactorscanalsobeappliedbaseduponcircumstances,suchaslimitedsight
distance,citizeninput,proximitytoschools,etc.
ItshouldalsobenotedthatacrosswalkattheintersectionatNESunsetBlvd.and
MonroeAve.NEhasbeenpreviouslyrankedusingthesecriteriaanddidnotscorehighly
forplacementofacrosswalkinthislocation.
