Parking Lot Subgrade: ESNW rep arrived onsite and observed contractor placing approximately 4-inches to 10-inches of 1 1/4-inch crushed recycled concrete as parking lot subgrade material. ESNW rep observed contractor grading and compacting parking lot subgrade material with a scraper grader and vibratory drum roller. ESNW rep used a ½- inch steel T-probe to probe locations along the parking lot subgrade, and observed the subgrade to be dense, firm, unyielding, and suitable for support of the proposed parking lot. ESNW rep observed that the contractor had achieved minimum compaction standards of 95% of the modified proctor value or greater in tested locations. ESNW rep will return as requested to continue observation and testing of further earthwork activities. Access Road Subgrade: ESNW rep arrived onsite and observed contractor had encountered an approximately 15-foot by 15-foot area of saturated and organic material in the site access roadway. ESNW rep observed contractor over-excavating approximately 12-inches to 18-inches to dense, firm, and unyielding native soil conditions. ESNW rep used a ½- inch steel T-probe to probe locations along the over-excavated section of roadway subgrade, and observed the native subgrade to be dense, firm, unyielding, and suitable for support of the proposed roadway. Contractor relayed area would be backfilled with 2-inch to 4-inch quarry spalls over woven geotextile fabric. ESNW rep will return as requested to continue observation and testing of further earthwork activities.
