ning Commission Recommendation regarding -
City Council Referral--Coal Creek Sanitary e;; -1,..
Landfill Matter
Gentlemen:
The Planning Commission has completed its study of the subject
matter as noted above and makes the following recommendation:
It is recommended that the City Council communicate
with the King County Council prior to April 19 , 1972
and request a delay in any commitment on the Coal
Creek area as a sanitary landfill . Purpose of the
delay would allow time for Seattle and/or King County
to develop a satisfactory 20-year solid waste disposal
plan. This recommendation is based on the following :
a. impact on fish and wildlife in the Coal
Creek area
b. possible Coal Creek access problems
c. impact on adjacent communities •
The recommendation of the Planning Commission is also
based on the fact that existing sanitary landfill
sites have remaining life spans exceeding eight years .
Therefore, an immediate 15-year plus commitment on the
Coal Creek area is not required .
