Sidewalk Subgrade: ESNW rep observed contractor had placed approximately 4-inches to 6-inches of 1 ¼-inch recycled crushed concrete as sidewalk subgrade in an approximately 8-foot by 75-foot area at the southwest corner of the Weatherly Inn development along Talbot Road South. ESNW rep observed contractor compacting sidewalk subgrade with a vibratory sled compactor. ESNW rep used a ½-inch steel T-probe to probe locations along sidewalk subgrade and observed subgrade conditions were very dense, firm, unyielding, and suitable for support of the proposed sidewalk. Asphalt Treated Base Paving: ESNW rep arrived onsite and observed Lakeside Paving was onsite and placing a 2-inch lift of asphalt treated base (ATB) along the site parking area and access roadway. ESNW rep observed contractor compacting ATB with a vibratory drum roller. ESNW rep observed ATB was approximately 295 oF when placed. Density tests indicated contractor had achieved adequate compaction of 92% of the RICE value or greater for ATB in the locations tested. Please refer to the attached plan detail for approximate testing locations. ESNW rep will return as requested to continue observation and testing of further earthwork activities. Roadway Subgrade: ESNW rep arrived onsite and observed contractor over-excavating an approximately 20-foot by 50-foot area of saturated material to a depth of approximately 18 to 24 inches. ESNW rep observed contractor had reached unsaturated native subgrade material. Contractor relayed approximately 8-inches to 10-inches of 2-inch to 4-inch quarry spalls and woven geotextile fabric would be used as backfill, capped with 1 ¼ -inch recycled crushed concrete material compacted with a vibratory drum roller for roadway subgrade. ESNW rep used a ½-inch steel T-probe to probe locations along the bottom of the excavation and observed native subgrade was very dense, firm, unyielding, and suitable for support of the proposed site access roadway. ESNW rep will return as requested to continue observation and testing of further earthwork activities. Fig.1: Site access roadway at the Weatherly Inn Development. Jackson Lundgren, G.I.T.
