RE: Building Permit: Structural Review – Second Submittal of Revisions
1601 Lind Ave SW (B21005287)
Dear Ms. Gross:
We reviewed the proposed project for compliance with the provisions of the
structural provisions of the 2018 International Building Code (IBC) as amended and
adopted by the State of Washington and the City of Renton. Our review noted that
the mechanical units shown in the first revision have been deleted and no longer part
of the proposed tenant improvement; but the drawings have been revised to indicate
screening of roof top units is part of the revised scope of work. The design team
should address the comments below.
Responses to the review comments below should be made in an itemized letter form
and any changes to the drawings should be clouded. We recommend that the permit
applicant have the mechanical engineer and structural engineer respond and resubmit
for additional review.
All information should be submitted directly to the City of Renton.
Structural
1. Please submit structural drawings indicating how the proposed root top unit
screens are to be framed and to be connected to the existing roof. Further,
the drawings should define the proposed member properties to be used. A
search of documents submitted to the City of Renton for this tenant
improvement (under Project number PR-000430) indicated no such drawings
have been submitted to the City. The drawings should be signed and sealed by
an engineer licensed in the State of Washington. See IBC Section 104.1,
107.2.1, and 1603.1.

2. If welding or post installed anchors or other work requiring special inspection
are part of the scope of work, please complete and submit the City of Renton’s
special inspection form. An electronic copy of this form may be found at:

3. Please submit calculations indicating the proposed members, proposed
connections, and existing structure have the design capacity to resist the
required IBC loadings. The calculations should be signed and sealed by an
engineer licensed in the State of Washington. See IBC Sections 104.1, 104.11,
1604.2, 1604.3, 1605.2, 1605.3, 1609.1, and 1613.1.
Corrections and comments made during the review process do not relieve the permit
applicant or the designers from compliance with code requirements, conditions of
approval, and permit requirements; nor are the designers relieved of responsibility for
a complete design in accordance with the laws of the state of Washington. This
review is for general compliance with the International Building Code as it relates to
the project. See IBC Section 105.4.
