The alley is not being used at the present time and would have to be improved before it could be used as such. Since seven of the residences in the block do not border on the alley at all, and since the alley would be a nuisance to at least four of the residences the chances of the alley to ever be improved is very remote. The block as a whole would be benefited if the land set aside for the alley be turned over to the adjoining property owners so they - could go ahead and improve this land rather than to have it lie dormant and become a possible eye sore. As for. my personal objection, this alley runs within four feet of my front porch and it would not only be a nuisance but, in my opinion, devaluate my property, whether or not it were improved. The thought of having a garbage truck or what have you, stopping in front of my front door and slopping garbage into my living room certainly is an unpleasant one. (This statement might be a little strong but the possibility exists and it is still nauseating.) This same condition exists for my next door neighbor and the two residences at the other end of the alley. Of the 23 residences in the block, 20 signed the petition requesting the alley be abandoned. One owner is renting her house and has not been available to sign. One owner was not interested in the alley but did not wish to sign the petition and only one owner indicated that he might be in favor of an alley. I think that after careful consideration, you will agree that there just is no room in this block for an alley and that the land that was set aside for the alley should be turned over to the adjoining property owners so they can go ahead and improve this land and in so doing improve the entire block.
