New Business:
RMAC Commissioner Appointments –There is one vacancy open on the RMAC.
Interested persons need to complete application and submit to RMAC.
4Culture Brainstorming Session – Charlie Rathburn and Jim Kelly offered to facilitate a
Brainstorming Session for the RMAC to strengthen its Arts and Culture Master Plan
project strategies. A date for an evening meeting will be coordinated by Elizabeth.
City Council Retreat – The RMAC presentation of art projects and our Arts and Culture
Master Plan objectives received a lot of support and kudos from Council members.
They especially liked and praised the “Going Global” installation at the corner of Rainier
Ave and Grady Way. More support for RMAC efforts from whole City Council is
anticipated.
South 3rd and Rainier Ave S Project – The Council was not impressed with the artistic
treatment of the four corners at South 3rd and Rainier Ave South which was done by a
City of Renton Department without any RMAC input. This provided an opportunity to
compare and contrast project differences in favor of having RMAC involvement. There
is now a possibility for consideration of new art at this location under RMAC leadership
when South 3rd is changed to a two-way street.
Downtown Partnership – Ben Andrews requested ideas from the RMAC to collaborate
with a Cleaning and Maintenance Project being implemented by the Downtown
Partnership they will have crews to monitor and empty trash cans, etc. They need ideas
for their message to communicate a clean and safe downtown environment. Ben, Bill
Adrienne and Samantha will work on this. RMAC to support their efforts. MSC
(Evelyn/Kim)
RMAC Plaques - 4Culture logo needs to be visible on projects when their funds are used.
Add additional plaques as necessary. MSC (Mary/Adrienne)
RMAC Art Projects –
1. Stenciled Parking Lot – Mary Clymer proposed to spray some graphic geometric art
stencils in the parking lot located across from the Berliner Pub and behind Ben’s
Loans. The lot is owned by the City of Renton. It will take a few hours to complete
the project at a cost not to exceed $200. MSC ( Evelyn/Bill)
2. “The Muybridge” (Bridge on Williams Ave South over the Cedar River) – Marsha
Rollinger proposed adhering panels that feature the work of famed photographer,
Eadweard Muybridge’s “The Horse in Motion” photo series. Each panel will have
one part of the “animation” to appear as if the horse and rider are galloping across
the bridge. There will also be a photo of the photographer at the end of the series.
The bridge is one-way, headed into downtown from the North. Panels will be on
the West side. Approximately 24 laminated panels will be used for the project (20
full size and 4 shorter ones). Estimated cost is not to exceed $4500 with an
estimated completion of end of April. MSC (Ben/Mary)
