RENTON MUNICIPAL ARTS COMMISSION MINUTES
April 5, 2016 Renton City Hall, 7th Floor –Conference Center
Members Present:
Mary Clymer, Adrienne La Faye, Ben Andrews, Jerri Everett, Mitch Shepherd, Samantha Goetz-
Granquist, Neil Sheesley, and Evelyn Reingold
Excused Absence: Marsha Rollinger, Paul Hebron, Bill Huls and Kimberly Eshelman
Staff Present: Elizabeth Higgins, RMAC Staff Liaison
Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by RMAC Vice -Chair, Mary Clymer at 6:00 pm.
Introduction of Guests: Aaron Blalack –Musician and Renton resident
Carrie Olson, Renton Farmers Market Project Coordinator – There are several opportunities
for artists to participate in the Market West expansion at the Farmers Market from June –
September. The artist items must be handmade by the artist in the State of Washington. The
space can accommodate at least 50 vendors. The market is looking for different ways to use
the space. Weekly fees are $20 for the Market West space. Interested artists can contact
Carrie for an application.
Yousman Okano, Pamena Milosheva and Brianna Holan, Studio OHM – They are an
interactive technical team who presented a design concept for a kinetic solar sculpture for the
new plaza at 2nd and Main and Bronson Way. This is a high visible area and the sculpture is
designed as an iconic work to engage the public with changing colored LED lights.
Steven Platt , Cosmos Development Lofts – The proposed sidewalk art would be a private
project in a public right of way at the intersection of Main Ave S and 2nd Ave. Steven has met
with Judith Caldwell who installed the “Wings and Wheels” art on Logan Ave to develop some
design ideas. This project will be funded by the Cosmos Development Lofts and the RMAC will
endorse the final design.
Meena Merchant and Kevin McPherson, The Owl Project – An innovative ceramic mosaic
mural project that will involve all 16 Renton School District elementary school’s approximately
7800 kids. The detail in the owl feathers allows contributions from all the kids. Several
possible locations for the mural have been identified. The project is in the planning phase and
the RMAC is requested to act as advisors. The RMAC agrees to support the Owl Project
through sponsorship and resources as available. MSC – (Ben/Neil)
Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the March 1, 2016 RMAC meeting were read and accepted.

Old Business:
Film Frenzy – Plans are for this to be a “Big Event” over multiple days during September and
October. Screenings and seminars will be held at the Regal Theater and the Red Lion. The
RMAC will support the Film Frenzy with resources and sponsorship as available. MSC (Evelyn/

RMAC Art Projects:
Stenciled Parking Lot – Mary Clymer will schedule a date this month to spray some geometric
art stencils in the parking lot located across from the Berliner Pub and behind Ben’s Loans.
Downtown Partnership – A soft launch of the project to clean and paint the trash cans in the
downtown area will be on April 23, 2016. Ben has completed a GAP form and Marsha has
submitted a tee-shirt design for the volunteers.
Storefront Art - Samantha suggested placing some are in a storefront at Rainier and 7th. She
will research what will be appropriate for this site.
RenCon – Ben is discussing an October RenCon event in Renton with the Red Lion and Wizards
of the Coast. The RMAC will support the RenCon with resources and sponsorship as available.

Correspondence and announcements: The correspondence and event folders were
circulated for individual review.
