Public Comments 12/1/2021 Meeting
Hello, this is Cathleen Powell, Renton Resident, 14 year volunteer with South County Cats and
rescue chair for my breed club.
First of all, thank you so much for hearing Renton residents on the Puppyland matter. I so
appreciate all the work it has taken to get to this spot...moving forward with a Humane Ordinance.
I would like to point out some recently activity on my Neighborhood NextDoor with a posting that
went up 4 days ago about the City of Renton moving forward with a Humane Ordinance, I have some
quick stats that might be worth sharing.
183 comments were made by 45 individuals in 4 days.
87% of those commenting did not want Puppyland doing business in our city
The other 13% wanted more information, but not one person said they supported Puppyland
doing business in Renton.
For months we have been standing outside of Puppyland peacefully protesting, holding signs,
and I want to say that our small group gets endless positive response with honks, waves, thumbs up,
peace signs, and people yelling/mouthing "thank you" out their car windows.
The public 'gets" what is going on inside Puppyland. They haven't sold over 1500 puppies in Renton
since they opened in February 2021 by sourcing them from breeders they have visited, vetted, and

know personally, as they say. This type of sales volume (and written records we have received from
brokers) is proof positive that the puppies are supplied from a middle man broker,J.A.K.S, which
imports from puppy mills all over the United States and makes them available on-line to sell to pet
shops like Puppyland.
