Subject: Support for a humane pet sales ordinance in Renton
Honorable Mayor Pavone and Council members:
On behalf of Best Friends Animal Society and our Washington members, please find attached a
letter respectfully urging the Council to enact an ordinance to restrict the retail sale of companion animals
in Renton pet stores. Also attached are a few resource documents that you may find helpful.
Best Friends is one of the leading animal welfare organizations in the United States. We are committed to
fighting the cruelty of pet mills, and we believe that an ordinance to restrict retail pet sales in Renton will be a
positive step to that end.
We have been proud to work with the majority of the more than 400 other cities, counties and
states throughout Washington and beyond that have enacted humane pet sales legislation, and I hope you will
not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if there is anything we can do to help.
