Thank you Commissioner Alberson, I wanted to follow up with your regarding the questions you asked me during the planning commission meeting on 8/18. I apologize if I seemed evasive or off topic- I've never been asked questions in a meeting before, so I was caught off guard. I was driving and was looking for somewhere to pull over to better answer your questions. Do we use a broker/JAKS? Yes, we do use JAKS, a broker. They are essentially a holding facility that holds our puppies for 4-5 days. During this time our puppies are vet checked, microchipped, and their medical records and pedigrees are put into a digital system so that we have a digital file when our puppies arrive at our store. I feel it's important to note that JAKS does not determine our breeders, and just because JAKS uses a breeder doesn't mean that we use them. My wife and I personally visit our breeders, JAKS holding facility, and inspect our transport. Is 4-5 days long enough to know if a puppy is going to have Parvo? You asked if JAKS holding our puppies for 4-5 days was long enough to know if a puppy has Parvo or not. Yes, and no. A typical "break" period for a puppy to show symptoms of Parvo is 3-5 days. However, in some cases it can take up to 14 days. The most important part in this is that JAKS and Puppyland require our breeders to follow a strict vaccine protocol created by NeoTech, a vaccine creator. Neotech's vaccines start early on in the puppy's life and protect the puppy if it does come in contact with the virus. Because of this NeoTech has essentially eradicated Parvo in the breeding programs they are utilized in. JAKS holds the puppies for around 5 days, the puppies are in transit for a day, and when we receive our puppies we do not allow them to leave our store for an additional 3 days. In total, the puppies are observed for approx 9-10 days before being sent home with their new family. CAUTION: This email originated from outside the City of Renton. Do not click links, reply or open attachments unless you know the content is safe. 2 Puppyland does not receive puppies with Parvo, but if for some reason we did we would treat them and find them homes. If a puppy went home and presented as having parvo we would pay all of the vet bills for the customer. I appreciate your concern and in depth questions. I would love for you to come to our Renton store to meet my wife and I so we can give you a personal tour and show you all of our paperwork, documents, and how we operate. Thank you, again, for your time. Best regards, Justin Kerr Puppyland 913-963-9125
