Subject:Please stop the sale of puppy mill puppies in all Renton pet stores
Dear Ms. Marshall,
I recently learned that despite recent legislation that prohibits future businesses from selling puppies,
the City of Renton is still allowing existing businesses to do so. This concerns me for multiple
reasons:
1. These puppies are no doubt being shipped in from Midwestern "factory-farm" puppy mills
where dogs are exploited over and over to provide this endless supply. They are then sold to
buyers who pay startlingly high, price-gouging prices of up to $8,000 and fall prey to predatory
lending in order to afford to buy these unfortunate animals.
2. Puppy mills participate in egregious business practices that result in the abject suffering of
innocent animals. Dogs are forced to breed repeatedly and then their medical, social, and
basic needs (proper food and shelter) are ignored. They suffer terribly at the hands of people
who care about nothing except making a profit. It is reprehensible and indefensible.
3. Also, these animals often become unmanageable by their new owners placing an additional
burden on the animal welfare system when they are surrendered to shelters because the
owners are unable to pay the medical bills for animals who start their lives out with illnesses
due to neglect and behavioral issues due to a lack of early socialization with other animals and
people.
Please do what you can to stop these morally wrong and ethically irresponsible/ borderline illegal
businesses from continuing to operate in Renton, WA
