Upon our arrival, we met with Mark Seek of Tiger Mountain Homes. We observed the 2 feet of compacted 1-1/4” minus concrete recycle to be in a firm and unyielding condition, based on our observations visually and with a ½ inch diameter, steel soil probe. Indentations left by a hand-operated jumping jack were observed on the surface and according to the contractor they placed the two lifts of material no more than 12 inches thick before compacting each lift. Last Friday we observed the over-excavated area that exposed suitably firm, native soil at up to 10 feet deep followed by part-time observation of the placement and compaction of 2 to 4- inch concrete recycle (spalls). In our opinion, the compacted concrete recycle placed over the firm, native soil will provide suitable foundation support of 1,500 psf, per plan.
