Limitations: The presence of our field representative at the site is to provide our client with a source of professional advice, opinions, and recommendations based upon the field representative’s observations and testing of the contractor’s work. Our services do not include supervision or direction of the contractor, their employees, or agents. Geotechnical recommendations for
obtaining project objectives may be made by our representatives; however, direction of the actual work should come from the owner or contractor, as appropriate. The contractor is responsible
for complying with the contract documents at all times, regardless of the presence of our field representative. Jobsite safety, including compliance with all applicable state or federal regulations,
is the sole responsibility of the contractor. The observations, recommendations, and conclusions provided in this field report are preliminary until reviewed by the ESNW project manager.
As requested by the client, ESNW rep was onsite at the Weatherly Inn development to observe and test
backfill along wall excavation. While onsite the following was observed:
Wall Excavation Backfill:
ESNW rep observed contractor placing a 6-inch perforated PVC drain pipe along the base of the wall.
ESNW rep observed contractor bedding drain pipe in 1 ¼-inch clean crushed drain rock and wrapping in
filter fabric. ESNW rep observed contractor had partially backfilled the western half of the wall with 12-
inch loose lifts of 1 ¼-inch minus crushed recycled concrete. ESNW rep observed contractor had
achieved minimum compaction standards of 95% of the modified proctor value in tested
locations.
ESNW rep observed the 6-block high eco block wall within the excavation remained stable, and native
soil conditions were suitable for temporary vertical cut slope. The slopes of the excavation were
observed to be stable and unchanging in their current temporary over steepened condition, however it is
the responsibility of the contractor to perform all necessary safety measures in accordance with state and
federal regulations. Contractor should contact ESNW for further observations if any changes in slope
condition occur. ESNW rep will return as requested by client for further observations.
