THE FOLLOWING WAS NOTED:
Associated Earth Sciences Inc. (AESI) was on site part-time to provide construction observation services for the installation of
watermain for the New Renton Elementary School 16. Upon arrival, AESI checked in with representatives from Cornerstone and Jerry
Jr. with Continental Dirt Contractors (CDC).
Watermain Installation and Backfill – Duvall Ave NE:
While onsite today, the contractor was observed installing the 10-inch diameter ductile iron watermain crossing Duvall Ave NE on the
northeastern corner of the site. The trench extended to approximately 7-feet below ground surface elevation and encountered a gray,
moist, silty fine sand with trace to some gravel (apparent native). The contractor bedded the pipe and backfilled the trench using 5/8th
inch minus crushed rock material. Backfill was placed in 1-foot thick lifts and each lift was compacted using a hydraulic vibratory plate
compactor (hoe pack). While onsite, AESI took 6 tests in the backfill using a nuclear densometer gauge and all tests passed the site
minimum specifications of 95%. See Table 1 below for compaction results and Figure 1 for locations.
