(AESI) was on site for part-time geotechnical observation. Upon arrival, we met with representatives from Cornerstone and Continental Dirt Contractors (CDC). While on-site, we observed CDC Excavating 1’ to 2’ deep footing edges in Area A between gridlines DD and DG. Once excavated into till and existing 2 ½” structural fill, the crew further compacted the subgrade with a vibratory plate. We probed the footing subgrades with a ½” diameter steel probe to around 2” and found them to be firm and unyielding. Over-Excavation, Grading, and Soil Stockpiling While on-site, AESI also observed CDC working on mass grading for the site by cutting down high areas in the South end of the site where the future parking area will be as well as stripping topsoil and vegetation in the recently relinquished wetlands area along the East edge of the site. AESI observed that two sections approximately 40’long x 56’wide x 1’ deep and 88’long x 70’wide x 1’ deep were excavated an extra 1’ below final grade due to stripping topsoil for an approximate total of 8400 ft3 or 311 yds3 of over-excavation. Soil from the South end cutting was temporarily placed today over the 2 ½”minus crushed rock area from 6/03/22 (FR 017). The contractor is aware that the temporarily placed soil is not compacted currently and is treated as a stockpile to be spread and dried in the future. Figure 1.
