WSP Job No. 30901520
From: Grace Roberts, Senior Scientist, WSP USA
To: Alan Wyatt, City of Renton, Parks Division
Route To: Jill Ding, City of Renton, Planning Division
CONSTRUCTION MITIGATION DESCRIPTION
The following is a description of the construction mitigation measures proposed for the City of
Renton Bocce Court Improvements project.
Proposed Construction Dates
The project will likely begin construction on November 01, 2022 and will be completed by
December 31, 2022.
Hours and Days of Operation
Construction will be completed Monday through Friday during daylight hours (7am to 7pm).
Construction will not take place outside of daylight hours. No special hours are proposed for
construction or hauling. If weekend work is required, construction will take place from 9am to
7pm on weekends.
Proposed Hauling/Transportation Routes
Materials for construction will likely be brought into the project area from the main highway 405
located east of the project site. Equipment will be brough along North 1st Street toward the
Renton Senior Activity Center. Material will be hauled offsite via the same route.
Preliminary Traffic Control Plan
Equipment trucks trips will be minimal and will not affect traffic in the surrounding area.
Emergency vehicle access shall be maintained continuously on and/or around the project site,
including but not limited to police, fire, and ambulance services. Vehicles shall not be parked in
such a manner as to obstruct the flow of traffic. Two-way traffic shall be maintained at all times
where identified.

General Best Management Practices and Minimization Measures
The contractor will provide a work plan describing best management practice (BMPs) to control
waste and minimize dust, erosion, mud, and noise for this project. The plan will include the
following BMPs at a minimum.
Waste
• Excess or waste materials will not be disposed of or abandoned near the Cedar River.
• No material will be allowed to enter Cedar River.
• Waste materials will be disposed of in an appropriate manner consistent with applicable
local, state, and federal regulations.
• Demolition and construction materials will not be stored where upland runoff can cause
materials to enter the Cedar River
• A separate dumpster/receptacle for all “wet-garbage” and a separate dumpster/receptacle for
“construction waste” and non-recyclable items intended for the landfill will be maintained on
the site.
• All waste containers shall be adequately covered at all times to prevent waste from being
blown or otherwise scattered onto adjoining properties or roadways until transferred to the
landfill or other facility.
• All dumpsters/receptacles will be emptied at a minimum interval of biweekly. They will be
emptied more often as may be required to prevent overfilling.
Mud/Erosion Control
• All mud will be contained within the project limits. Any mud that is tracked onto the adjacent
paved road will be immediately cleaned up by scraping and sweeping the material and
depositing the materials within the project limits. Any mud that escapes the project area will
be collected and deposited within the project limits immediately.
Dust
It is not anticipated that the area disturbed will create a dust control problem. However, if the
project degrades air quality or creates a nuisance for adjacent properties or roadways as a result
of blowing dust, the contractor will apply water to the site on a regular basis to eliminate the
nuisance or provide other mitigation efforts as needed.
Spills and Leaks
• Check equipment for leaks and other problems that could result in the discharge of
petroleum-based products or other material into the surrounding environment.
• Corrective actions will be taken in the event of any discharge of oil, fuel, or chemicals into
the water, including:
− Containment and cleanup efforts will begin immediately upon discovery of the spill and
be completed in an expeditious manner in accordance with all local, state, and federal
regulations. Spill response will take precedence over normal work. Cleanup will include
proper disposal of any spilled material and used cleanup material.

− The cause of the spill will be ascertained, and appropriate actions taken to prevent further
incidents or environmental damage.
• Oil-absorbent materials will be present on site for use in the event of a spill or if any oil
product is observed in the water.
Noise
• All construction equipment shall be adequately muffled and maintained to minimize
project noise.
