THE FOLLOWING WAS NOTED:
Rock Drainage Channel:
No substantial progress on this task today, placement of nonwoven fabric over drain rock is still pending (Figure 1).
Northern Portion of Bus Loop Road:
This portion of road in the Northeast corner of the site had been left to aerate overnight due to the wet, yielding till (Figure 1). The
exposed surface did not aerate effectively on this day due to the lack of sun and presence of precipitation. The soil has improved
somewhat and does not compact as easily under foot, but will still need more time to aerate. Other soils to the West of the road
toward the rock drainage channel were being turned over for aeration as well.
Plumbing-Electrical Conduits:
Shallow plumbing and electrical conduits had been backfilled at <1 foot deep. Native soil backfill was used. The backfill areas were
observed visually, probed, and nuclear gage density tests were performed (Figure 2). Two density tests were performed in the backfill
over the plumbing pipe, each test passed at >95% compaction (Table 1). A fire service line trench was also observed with the pipe now
in place. A bundle of electrical conduits placed in a trench running North-South through the same area was also observed. All trench
subgrades and plumbing backfill observed today was firm and unyielding.
Footing/Foundation Backfill:
Backfill was observed around the large footings at the north end of building area C, on gridline AL (between A19.5-A16.5 and A15-A10)
and the perpendicular intersecting footings to those two along gridlines A17 and A13 (Figure 3). The backfill of 2-1/2” minus material
was placed in firm and unyielding lifts of <1 ft. Additionally, the large footing at gridlines (AL-AQ, A23) was partially backfilled with
native soil and density tests were taken at two different depths from subgrade in the backfill (Table 1).
Footing/Foundation Subgrade Observation:
The subgrade for the large footing at gridlines (AL, A23.5-A21.5) and at five square spread footings along gridline AH from A24 to A14
and at gridlines (AJ-AL, A24) was finished and observed to be firm and unyielding, but no density tests were performed since the
subgrade material is 2-1/2” minus crushed rock (Figure 3).
