Notification
Duwamish Tribe,
Thank you for your initial comments related to the Southport West project (LUA22-000284) wherein you are requesting
an archaeological review be performed for this proposed project. If any archaeological work is performed, you will be
notified. In addition, you are requesting to maintain the stream buffer for Johns Creek, the fish and wildlife migration,
mating and young rearing windows be observed during heavy construction, and only native plants be used for
landscaping planting. Your email has been included in the official project file and you have been made a party of record.
Thanks for your interest in this project and if you have any further questions or comments moving forward, please feel
free to contact me at 425-430-7289 or cclose@rentonwa.gov.

Comments Thank you for the opportunity to review and comment. Based on the information provided and
our understanding of the project and its APE, we would recommend an archaeological review

performed for this project, especially if excavating below current fill. This is in an area the
Duwamish Tribe considers culturally significant and has a high probability to have unknown
archaeological deposits. If any archaeological work is performed, we request notification. An IDP
should not be used in lieu of archaeological investigation. Cultural and archaeological resources
are non-renewable and are best discovered prior to ground disturbance. In addition we strongly
recommend only native plants be used for any proposed landscaping. Also we strongly encourage
maintaining the stream buffer for Johns Creek as it appears parts of the property (extreme
northeast section) are within 200 feet of the creek. Since the property is proximal to Lake
Washington the Tribe also asks that fish and wildlife migration, mating and young rearing windows
be observed during heavy construction.
