Authorization of Equity Commission Vice Chair to act as Commission Chair through December
31, 2022.
Due to the resignation of former Commission Chair Aleja Rubalcaba, staff asked for a motion
to promote Vice Chair Nicole Hill to Commission Chair for the remainder of 2022.
MOVED BY BADDELEY, SECONDED BY PADHI. CARRIED.
AUDIENCE COMMENT
Those wishing to address the Renton Equity Commission will be called upon. Each
speaker is allowed three (3) minutes.
MAYOR, STAFF COMMENTS
Mayor Pavone reserved his comments until Item 8.a. Follow up to South King County Mayor's
Statement on Law Enforcement.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
The agenda was approved by UNANIMOUS CONSENT.

Approval of the August 9, 2022 Renton Equity Commission Regular Meeting minutes.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Follow-up to South King County Mayor's Statement on Law Enforcement
Mayor Armondo Pavone
Mayor Pavone provided background on the South King County Mayor's Statement on Law
Enforcement. Chief of Police Jon Schuldt talked about the role of law enforcement and how the
Renton Police Department addresses calls in which mental health, substance use, and other
potential criminal activity. Prosecution Division Director Iva Clark and Lead Prosecutor Leila
Curtis gave an overview of the criteria used to determine if prosecution is appropriate or if the
defendant could benefit from Community Court services. Prosecutor Curtis provided information
on the services provided by the Community Court, its current state of success and possibilities of
the system for the future. Judicial Administrative Officer Bonnie Woodrow spoke on how the
court case management works.
NEW BUSINESS
Expiration of Commissioner Terms December 31, 2022.
EHHS Administrative Assistant Linda Moschetti-Newing
Staff noted which Commission terms will expire December 31, 2022 and provided information
on the process if those commissioners are interested in continuing on the Commission. She
noted she would be working with the Communications Division to open the application
process and ensure it was well publicized.

November 3 Workshop 3-7 p.m. - Equity Commission Mission and Vision Statement
Equity and Inclusion Consultant Benita Horn reminded the commissioners of the upcoming
November 3 workshop to develop its mission and vision statements. The workshop
scheduled from 3-7 p.m. is a Special Meeting.

The Commission also discussed canceling its December 13, 2022 meeting. MOVED BY TURK,
SECONDED BY PADHI. CARRIED.
