CALL TO ORDER
Chair Rubalcaba called the meeting of the Renton Equity Commission to order at 5:32
p.m.

MAYOR, STAFF COMMENTS
Mayor Pavone greeted the Commissioners and thanked them for the work they have done
thus far. He provided an update on the change in the Equity, Housing, & Human Services
Department (EHHS) administration and introduced recently appointed EHHS Administrator
Maryjane Van Cleave. Ms. Van Cleave welcomed the commissioners and provided some
information about her background and vision for the Commission's work.

SPECIAL PRESENTATION
Renton's Demographic Data Update
GIS Analyst Aaron Raymond
GIS Analyst Aaron Raymond gave a statistical presentation comparing Renton's demographic
information between 2010 and 2018 and also comparing it to the same King County data. The
Commissioners expressed interest in exploring some of the data further and staff agreed to
bring back more detailed data for deeper analysis and discussion at a future meeting.
Community and Economic Development Department - Comprehensive Plan Update
Long Range Planning Manager Angie Mathias
Current Planning Manager Angie Mathias gave a presentation on the upcoming revision of the
city's Comprehensive Plan. She provided an overview of the components of the Plan,
outreach process, and explained which areas will be referred to the Equity Commission for
review and input. The update process will intensify over the next year in preparation of the
draft Plan being approved by Council before December 31, 2024.
AUDIENCE COMMENT
Those wishing to address the Renton Equity Commission will be called upon. In-
person audience will be called upon first, followed by virtual attendees. Each speaker
is allowed three (3) minutes.

Approval of July 12, 2022 Renton Equity Commission Regular Meeting minutes.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Request from Staff to excuse absence of Commissioner Baddeley from July 12, 2022 Renton
Equity Commission meeting.

Equity and Inclusion Consultant Benita Horn.
Equity & Inclusion Consultant Benita Horn introduced the process of creating the Commission's
Mission and Vision statements. Commissioners provided short phrases indicating what they
would like Renton to be when it comes to equity and inclusion. Further work will be conducted
during a future meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS
Vice Chair Hill raised a question regarding a recently released statement by Mayor Pavone
relating to crime in Renton and South King County. Administrator Van Cleave agreed to add a
public safety presentation by the Renton Police Department to the Commission's September
meeting.
