(AESI) was onsite in the afternoon to observe progress on detention facilities #1A and #1B. Detention Facility #1A AESI observed that prior to our arrival, 2.5’ to 3’ of backfill had been placed over Facility #1A. CDC informed AESI that the backfill, consisting of onsite soil had been placed in one 2’ lift and then a 0.5’ to 1’ lift. AESI observed CDC using a vibratory roller to compact the backfilled area. AESI used a density gauge to test the newly backfilled area. Test results met or exceeded 95% compaction (Table 1). In our opinion, based on our observations and test results, we found the observed backfill to be firm and unyielding and suitable for support of planned paving. See Figure 1 for location of observed areas. Detention Facility #1B AESI observed, that placement of stormwater chambers was still underway in Facility #1B. CDC had used a Telebelt to place aggregate around and 0.5’ above the stormwater chambers in a section the western end of the Facility. CDC informed AESI that they plan to compact the top 0.5’ of aggregate with a plate compactor. See Figure 1 for location of observed areas. Water Line Backfill While on-site, we observed that approximately 3’ of water line backfill, consisting of 5/8” minus crushed rock, had been placed in an across Chelan Ave NE (Figure 2). The backfill was moisture conditioned, placed in 1’ to 1.5’ lifts, and compacted with a hoepac. AESI used a density gauge to test the new backfilled sections. Test results met or exceeded 95% compaction (Table 1). In our opinion, based on our observations and test results, we found the observed area of the water line backfill, to be firm and unyielding and suitable for support of planned paving.
