(AESI) was onsite at 9:30am at the request of the general contractor to observe native soil conditions and placement of sidewalk subgrade along Duvall Avenue NE at the Renton School District No. 403 development. While onsite we met with representatives from Continental Dirt Contractors. Sidewalk Subgrade Conditions AESI arrived onsite and observed contractor grading an approximately 250-foot portion of a of a 600-foot sidewalk along Duvall Avenue NE at the eastern margin of the Renton School District No. 403 development. AESI observed contractor placing 4 to 6-inches of 5/8-inch crushed rock along native subgrade and compacting with a vibratory plate compactor. Contractor relayed up to 24-inches of type 17 had been placed in areas that were below grade (marked on plans below) and capped with 4 to 6-inches of 5/8-inch crushed rock compacted with a vibratory plate compactor. AESI used a ½-inch steel T-probe to probe locations along the sidewalk subgrade and observed an approximately 6-foot by 4-foot area (marked on plans below) where subgrade material was saturated and not of suitable density. AESI recommended over- excavation up to 24-inches and backfill with 2-inch to 4-inch quarry spalls capped with 5/8-inch crushed rock compacted with a vibratory plate compactor in areas where saturated or material is encountered. AESI observed that remaining native subgrade as well as compacted import backfill material was dense, firm, unyielding, and suitable for support of the proposed sidewalk. AESI departed the site at 1:30pm and will return for further observations and testing as requested by the client. 16 Date Project Name Project No. Report No. 01/12/2023 Renton ES 16 20180398E003 0.78 Page 2 of 4 FIELD REPORT Figure 1: Completed area of grading/ compaction in green, area of recommended over-excavation and backfill with 2-inch to 4-inch quarry spalls in red, ungraded area in yellow (as of 1/12/2023) Contractor relayed up to 24-inches of type 17 placed to bring area to grade 16 Date Project Name Project No. Report No. 01/12/2023 Renton ES 16 20180398E003 0.78 Page 3 of 4 FIELD REPORT Figure 2: Sidewalk subgrade with type 17 basecourse, capped with 5/8-inch crushed rock 16 Date Project Name Project No. Report No. 01/12/2023 Renton ES 16 20180398E003 0.78 Page 4 of 4 FIELD REPORT Figure 2: contractor placing type 17 basecourse (in areas below grade) capped with 5/8-inch crushed rock
