THE FOLLOWING WAS NOTED:
Associated Earth Sciences Inc. (AESI) was onsite at 11:30 AM at the request of the general contractor to observe a final
proof roll of the southern parking lot at the Renton School District No. 403 development. While onsite we met with
representatives, Kyle with Cornerstone, and Jerry with Continental Dirt Contractors.
Sidewalk Subgrade Conditions
AESI was directed to the southern parking lot which had been surfaced with crushed aggregate by the paving contractor
prior to our arrival. AESI observed a proof roll of the subgrade throughout the southern parking lot, including the stalls
and aprons and main drive lanes. To conduct the proof roll the earthwork contractor utilized a large loader with a full
bucket. The contractor drove near a slow walking pace across the exposed subgrade. AESI did not observe deflection at
the surface under the pressure of the tires. Minor rutting, less than 1/8 of and inch was observed in areas where the
tires of the loader made a turn. It was the opinion of AESI that the subgrade was in a firm and unyielding condition. The
contractor should make sure that the subgrade is not frozen prior to paving.
AESI departed the site at approximately 12:30pm and will return for further observations and testing as requested by
the client.
