THE FOLLOWING WAS NOTED:
Associated Earth Sciences Inc. (AESI) was on-site today around 11am to perform compaction tests over HMA for the parking lot and
to observe driveway subgrade for a nearby residence.
HMA Compaction Tests Parking Lot
Upon our arrival, Olympic Paving was placing HMA starting from the south end of the parking lot located at the south side of the site
(Photo 1). A single 3-inch lift of HMA was being placed and compacted using a mid-sized smooth drum roller and a vibratory plate
compactor. AESI performed 5 compaction tests today using a nuclear densometer. All tests met or exceeded the minimum specified
compaction of the RICE value. While we were onsite, Olympic Paving informed us that the plant ran out of natural gas and will not be
placing anymore HMA for the rest of the day. Compaction test results are shown in Table 1 and their approximate locations on Figure
1 below.
Neighbor’s Driveway Subgrade
While onsite, AESI observed the subgrade for the neighbor’s driveway located at the southwest corner of the site (Photo 2). We
observed the subgrade to be firm and unyielding probing no more than 1 to 2 inches using a ½” diameter steel t-probe. Continental
informed us that they plan on place 11/4” minus crushed rock sometime in the future. AESI left the site in the afternoon and will return
upon the contractor’s request.
