Our services do not include supervision or direction of the contractor, their employees, or agents. Geotechnical recommendations for obtaining project objectives may be made by our representatives; however, direction of the actual work should come from the owner or contractor, as appropriate. The contractor is responsible for complying with the contract documents at all times, regardless of the presence of our field representative. Jobsite safety, including compliance with all applicable state or federal regulations, is the sole responsibility of the contractor. The observations, recommendations, and conclusions provided in this field report are preliminary until reviewed by the ESNW project manager. ESNW rep was onsite to observe road over excavation and grading, and sewer backfill in alley 2. Roadway Subgrade While onsite, ESNW rep observed the contractor over excavating approximately 2’ in depth in alley 3. Rep probed the base of the excavation with a ½” steel T-probe and observed dense soil conditions, suitable for fabric, quarry spalls, and approximately a foot of 1 ¼” minus crushed rock. Sewer Backfill While onsite, ESNW rep observed the contractor excavating a trench approximately 11’ deep into native clay with gravel. ESNW rep observed the contractor bed the sewer pipe with pea gravel and backfill the trench in approximately 12” lifts. A large hoe pack was used to compact the soil with good effort. ESNW rep took compaction tests and observed adequate compaction of at least 95% of the modified proctor at the tested locations. Please see map and table below.
