Our services do not include supervision or direction of the contractor, their employees, or agents. Geotechnical recommendations for obtaining project objectives may be made by our representatives; however, direction of the actual work should come from the owner or contractor, as appropriate. The contractor is responsible for complying with the contract documents at all times, regardless of the presence of our field representative. Jobsite safety, including compliance with all applicable state or federal regulations, is the sole responsibility of the contractor. The observations, recommendations, and conclusions provided in this field report are preliminary until reviewed by the ESNW project manager. ESNW rep was on site to observe and document shoring, ultra block gravity wall installation and test side sewer trench backfill. Shoring Observations – Soldier Pile: ESNW rep observed the drilling contractor use a 30-inch auger to auger excavate to design depth (approx. 25 to 40-feet below existing grade) as per schedule (pg. 2). The excavations were stable with spoils consisting of dense grey silty sands. ESNW rep observed the contractor install a steel beam as per schedule in the center of the excavations and backfilled with structural concrete to bottom of excavation and ‘CDF’ to existing grade. ESNW rep observed the contractor install P28, P29, P30, P33, P34, P37, P38, P39 and P40. The shoring installation was observed completed as per approved plans and our geotechnical recommendations. Ultra-Block Gravity Wall Observations: ESNW rep observed the contractor install a ultra-block gravity wall along the east side of lots 33 to 40. ESNW rep observed the excavation for the wall to be in dense material with a 1H:1V slope and was stable at the time of visit. The contractor placed a lift of blocks as per design schedule and used 5/8-inch clean crushed aggregate as drain rock/backfill. ESNW rep observed the wall to be installed as per approved plans and our geotechnical recommendations. Side Sewer Observations: While onsite, ESNW rep observed the contractor excavating a sewer trench-line and installing side sewer for lot 3, lot 5 and lot 6. The contractor excavated to an approximate 8-feet in depth while establishing trench boxes. The contractor installed an 8-inch diameter PVC pipe bedded in pea gravel. The contractor backfilled the trench with native material in 12 to18-inch loose lifts and compacted each lift with a hoe pack. Density tests indicate adequate compaction of at least 95% at tested locations.
