Our services do not include supervision or direction of the contractor, their employees, or agents. Geotechnical recommendations for obtaining project objectives may be made by our representatives; however, direction of the actual work should come from the owner or contractor, as appropriate. The contractor is responsible for complying with the contract documents at all times, regardless of the presence of our field representative. Jobsite safety, including compliance with all applicable state or federal regulations, is the sole responsibility of the contractor. The observations, recommendations, and conclusions provided in this field report are preliminary until reviewed by the ESNW project manager. ESNW rep was on site to observe and document shoring and Redi-Rock wall installation. Shoring Observations – Tie Backs: ESNW rep Observed the drilling contractor install tie backs. The contractor open-holed drilled approximately 6-inch diameter shafts at a 15-degree angle into the native soils. The contractor installed a tendon with strands and un-bonded zones as per design schedule into every drilled shaft. The shafts were backfilled with grout up to the shaft opening. The installation was observed to be as per approved plans and our geotechnical recommendations. Redi-Rock Gravity Wall Observations: ESNW rep observed the contractor install a Redi-Rock wall along the east side of lots 33 to 40. ESNW rep observed the excavation for the wall to be in dense material with a 1H:1V slope and was stable at the time of visit. The contractor placed a lift of blocks as per design schedule and used 5/8-inch clean crushed aggregate as drain rock/backfill. The contractor backfilled with imported poorly graded sand with gravel in 10 to 12-inch loose lifts that were compacted with large plate compactor. Density test result indicated adequate compaction of at least 95% at the tested location. ESNW rep observed the wall to be installed as per approved plans and our geotechnical recommendations. Shoring Observations—Tie-Back Proof Testing: While onsite, ESNW rep observed the contractor preform proof testing on tie-backs (P38 and P39). Each tie-back was observed to have a pressure applied to it by a certified hydraulic ram in equal increments up to 133% of the design load (see schedule for design load). Each tie-back was observed to be within the testing criteria. The contractor locked off the tie-back at 100% of the design load. Shoring Observations—Tie-Back Verification Testing: While onsite, ESNW rep observed the contractor preform verification testing on tie-back (P34). Each tie- back was observed to have a pressure applied to it by a certified hydraulic ram in equal increments up to 200% of the design load (see schedule for design load). Each tie-back was observed to be within the testing criteria. The contractor locked off the tie-back at 100% of the design load.
